A united front against illegality, a new impetus for the fight against environmental crimes. The prestigious Chinese Hall of the Royal Palace of Portici hosted a crucial event for environmental safety in Campania yesterday. The certificate award ceremony for the course in "Countermeasures in the Land of Fires," a high-level training program sponsored by the Prefecture of Naples in close collaboration with the Metropolitan City, officially concluded.
The initiative involved not only officers from the Caserta Provincial Police, but also colleagues from the Naples and Benevento Local Police Forces, supported by Italian Army personnel, demonstrating an integrated and multidisciplinary approach to combating illegal dumping.
The institutional summit
The importance of the event was underscored by the presence of the highest state officials in the area. Hosting the event were the Prefect of Naples, Michele Di Bari, along with his colleagues from Caserta and Benevento, Lucia Volpe and Raffaela Moscarella.
Also sitting at the authorities' table were Metropolitan Mayor Gaetano Manfredi and the Presidents of the Provinces of Caserta and Benevento, Anacleto Colombiano and Nino Lombardi. The operational component was represented by Commanders Lucia Rea (Naples) and Biagio Chiariello (Caserta), key figures in coordinating the patrols that patrol the high-risk areas every day.
Professionalism and results on the field
For the Caserta Provincial Police, led by the newly appointed Commander Chiariello, this achievement is more than just a formality. It represents a quantum leap toward the extreme professionalization needed to tackle criminal organizations and complex environmental crimes.
The numbers, after all, speak for themselves: ongoing local activity has already led to dozens of seizures and reports, marking a turning point in the crackdown on crime. The training received will now enable operators to operate with even more refined regulatory and technical tools.
A note of hope
The solemn event was accompanied by the music quartet of students from the Severi High School in Castellammare di Stabia, who recalled that the fight for legality is, first and foremost, a commitment to future generations.

It's important that the authorities cooperate in these events, but I wonder if there will truly be a real change in the fight against environmental crimes. Training is essential, but more resources and effective controls are also needed.
