New intervention by the police in the Land of fires, where environmental pollution controls continue to bring to light situations of serious illegality. Yesterday afternoon, the military Marcianise Forestry Carabinieri Unit they carried out an inspection in the municipality of casaluce, identifying a mechatronics workshop completely without authorizations.

According to the findings, the business was actually run by a 43-year-old local man. The site consisted of a large open space flanked by workshop rooms, with a concrete floor marked by visible stains of used oil. A bin filled with hazardous waste, consisting of used oil, was also found in plain sight, and without any protection from the elements.

The inspection revealed an alarming picture. Officers found packaging contaminated with hazardous substances, oil-soaked car parts, air filters, worn mufflers, torn tires, and plastic buckets containing oil-soaked engine components, all mixed with municipal solid waste. Vehicles undergoing repairs were located in the yard, as well as a sump connected to the public sewer system. Clear traces of engine oil were found around the sump, also visible in the runoff water in the area.

Inside the workshop and two other rooms on the ground floor, additional hazardous waste was found, including contaminated rags and clothing, packaging, mechanical parts, and used tires. When asked to produce permits and administrative documentation, the manager was unable to produce any permits, except for electricity receipts.

The investigations led to the discovery of serious environmental violations, from the uncontrolled storage of hazardous special waste to the risk of water contamination, and the illegal mixing of hazardous and non-hazardous waste resulting from the unauthorized operation of the business. Following the completion of the formal procedures, the Carabinieri Forestale (Forestry Police) arrested the 43-year-old and seized the entire area, the workshop, and the waste found, making everything available to the judicial authorities.
