Giugliano – The escalation of crime affecting post offices in the provinces of Naples and Caserta continues unabated. The latest incident, chronologically speaking, occurred this morning around 10:00 a.m. in Giugliano, Campania, where a commando unit sowed panic among employees and customers.

The blitz with a covered face

According to initial reports by the Carabinieri, who promptly responded to the branch on Via I Maggio, two individuals with their faces covered broke into the post office.

With weapons in hand, the robbers demanded that the staff hand over the cash in the tills. A swift and violent action that, despite the high tension, fortunately resulted in no injuries to the civilians present at the time of the attack.

The shadow of the “marmot” and the new methods

The incident comes amidst a period of high alert for law enforcement. Although this case was a "traditional" armed robbery, the area between Giugliano and Caserta has long been targeted by specialized gangs who also use more sophisticated techniques, such as the so-called "marmotta"—the insertion of explosive charges into ATMs—to break into safes at night.

The shift from technical sabotage to daytime frontal assault signals a worsening of the unscrupulousness of local criminal groups.

Investigations and roadblocks

The loot, the exact amount of which is still being quantified by postal officials, appears to be substantial. The Carabinieri immediately began forensic investigations and acquired video surveillance footage from the area to trace the robbers' escape route.

Roadblocks have been set up along the main roads between Naples and Caserta in an attempt to intercept the fugitives before they disappear into neighboring municipalities.

It's incredible how crime never stops, even though law enforcement is always on the move. Citizens are afraid and don't know where to turn. Let's hope this situation improves soon, because it's unsustainable.
