TORRE ANNUNZIATA – In a crackdown on security, the Prefecture has once again established "red zones" in the Torre Annunziata area. The measure, signed by Prefect Michele Di Bari at the conclusion of the Provincial Committee for Public Order and Safety dedicated to the city's emergency, is effective immediately and will remain in effect until May 13.

Mayor Corrado Cuccurullo urged the renewal in light of the results achieved with the previous ordinance, in effect from March 7 to September 30, 2025, a period during which a significant drop in crime rates was observed in the affected areas.

The identified areas include some of the most sensitive arteries and squares in the city center, from Corso Umberto I to Piazza Nicotera, from Piazza Risorgimento to Via Marconi, up to Viale Manfredi and Via Prota, with the aim of monitoring the points considered most exposed to public order issues.

"The goal of the red zones is to secure the urban perimeter, which presents the greatest challenges in terms of public order and the risk of disruptive behavior," said Mayor Corrado Cuccurullo. "This decision is consistent with the efforts already undertaken by the Prefecture and law enforcement officials to combat crime. I express my satisfaction with this further decision by the Prefect and the attention paid to our city."

The measure provides for increased controls and the ability for law enforcement to order the immediate removal of individuals deemed potentially dangerous or responsible for aggressive, threatening, or persistently harassing behavior, especially if they have already been reported for crimes against persons, drug-related offenses, or illegal possession of weapons.

The red zone measure seems like a good solution for safety, but I don't know if it's enough to solve the crime problem. More extensive work is needed, involving the local community as well.
