Torre del Greco, illegal homes in the "Red Zone" are being demolished: the owner is demolishing them at his own expense.

The Torre Annunziata Prosecutor's Office's order on Via Montedoro was executed. The works were located in an area with a high volcanic and seismic risk: residential extensions were demolished following a 2011 ruling.

Torre del Greco – The Torre Annunziata Public Prosecutor's Office continues its relentless offensive against illegal construction, a long-standing scourge of the Vesuvian area. In recent hours, several illegal structures located on Via I Traversa Montedoro in the municipality of Torre del Greco have been demolished, following an order issued by the local court's branch office.

The raid on Via Montedoro: over 30 square meters of illegal buildings demolished.

The work involved a series of residential structures that had been built in complete disregard of urban planning regulations. Specifically, the bulldozers—in this case, privately operated—removed two extensions attached to an existing building (12 and 15 square meters, respectively), a reinforced concrete floor, and a bathroom space complete with fixtures. A veritable "extra" apartment built without any permit.

An area sealed off by restrictions: from seismic risk to the Red Zone

Making the abuse even more serious is the nature of the land on which the works were built. The Via Montedoro area is subject to a series of restrictions aimed at protecting public safety:

Volcanic Risk: The area falls within the "Red Zone," the highest risk area in the event of an eruption of Vesuvius, where any further expansion of housing is strictly prohibited.

Seismic Hazard: The area is classified as “Zone 2,” prone to strong earthquakes, where buildings without earthquake-proof standards represent a death trap.

Environmental Protection: The entire municipality has been declared of notable public interest and is subject to the Vesuvian Municipalities' Territorial Landscape Plan.

In such a fragile context, every illegal brick is not only an administrative offense, but a potential threat to the hydrogeological system and the safety of citizens.

The victory of the "hard line": the State does not advance the costs

A notable detail of the operation concerns the method of execution. Despite the conviction dating back to 2011, the demolition was carried out under a self-demolition regime. Thanks to the persuasion and pressure exerted by the prosecutor's office, the owner himself covered the costs of demolition and debris disposal.

This procedure represents a success for the public administration: the intervention occurred "at zero cost" to the Municipality and the Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, avoiding the lengthy and complex procedures for advancing public expenditures and demonstrating the dissuasive effect of legal action.
