Tufino – Yesterday, the Carabinieri of the Nola Company executed a precautionary detention order, issued by the preliminary investigations judge of the Nola Court at the request of the local prosecutor's office, against two suspects held responsible for aggravated homicide.
The order is related to the death of four-year-old Alessandra, which occurred in Tufino, in the province of Naples, on the night between December 13 and 14, 2024. Those arrested are the little girl's uncles: a first cousin of her father and his wife, to whom her father had entrusted her without any authorization from the Juvenile Court.
The death and the alarm raised by the doctor
The investigation began immediately after the minor's death, which occurred inside the foster couple's home. The alarm was raised by the emergency medical service doctor, who arrived on the scene and was shocked by the condition of the body, which was immediately deemed inconsistent with a natural death.
A complex and detailed investigation
Since December 2024, the Nola Public Prosecutor's Office has coordinated a complex investigative activity, entrusted to the Carabinieri of the Operational Section of the Nola Company, with the support of the Tufino Station.
The contribution of the specialized personnel of the Survey Section of the Investigative Unit of Castello di Cisterna and of the Scientific Investigations Unit of the Carabinieri of Rome – Biology Section was also fundamental.
Technical consultancy and scientific evidence
The investigation utilized a variety of investigative tools, both technical and declaratory. Of particular note were the findings of a joint medical-legal consultation.
IT consultancy and the acquisition of digital documentation and data.
These were added to the results of the autopsy examinations and the scientific tests carried out on the findings.
The reconstruction of the story: from foster care to death
The investigations allowed for a detailed and chronological reconstruction of the entire story, starting in the summer of 2024, when the child was entrusted to the couple following the suspension of parental responsibility by her biological parents.
According to investigators, it was during the foster care period that the child progressively manifested himself in seriously harmful behaviors towards the minor.
Child abuse and neglect
A cross-analysis of investigative data, messages exchanged between the suspects and third parties, statements made during the proceedings, and scientific findings led to the hypothesis of systematic conduct of serious neglect, technically classified as child neglect.
Such behavior would have led to a progressive and severe malnutrition of the child.
Physical violence and irreversible decay
In addition to neglect, violent behavior was also found. The combination of malnutrition and abuse led the minor to profound physical decline, to a state described by specialists as cachectic.
The child had, among other things, severe burns, bedsores, and a fracture, factors which, together with malnutrition, contributed to the onset of a serious lung disease that proved fatal.
The charges and the circumstantial evidence
In light of the evidence gathered, the Prosecutor's Office believes there is serious evidence of guilt against the two suspects, based on a criminal case involving the aggravated homicide of a minor entrusted to their care.
