Attempts are being made to find a solution to the workers' dispute at the Villa Mercede nursing home on Ischia. A new meeting was held at the Palazzo di Governo, convened by the Prefect of Naples, Michele di Bari, to assess the unrest affecting the facility's staff, currently employed by the Icaro Consortium and the Santiago Cooperative.
Representatives of the Campania Region, the Naples 2 North Local Health Authority (ASL), the companies involved in managing the services, and the relevant trade unions participated in the discussion. The meeting follows meetings held in recent weeks and marks an important step in the effort to provide employment security to employees who are concerned about their future employment.
During the meeting, the Local Health Authority announced its intention to permanently internalize the services provided within the RSA, noting that public notices have already been published for the recruitment of some of the current staff. This step could ensure continuity of employment for several workers, but still leaves open the question of who risks being excluded from the new structure.
Regarding auxiliary services, the Integrated Services Consortium has expressed its willingness to hire cleaning staff through a construction site transfer, a possibility that represents a first step towards safeguarding additional jobs.
The Prefecture has urged all parties to find a shared path that will safeguard employment levels, including those currently not included in the absorption plans. Discussions will continue with a new meeting scheduled for February 9th, to which the island's municipal administrations will also be invited, in an effort to broaden the search for solutions and provide concrete answers to the workers in protest.
