The Court of Auditors has ordered two non-commissioned officers of the Casalnuovo di Napoli Municipal Police, Antonio De Simone and Luigi Di Monda, to pay compensation for the improper use of a patrol car as a private taxi.
The events date back to October 13, 2023, when a video shot by students of the Suor Orsola Benincasa University captured the company car parked in front of the university while accompanying two women in civilian clothes, without any work-related reasons.
The video that sparked the investigation
The video, shared on social media, reached MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli (Green-Side Alliance), who immediately reported the incident to the municipal authorities, demanding action. The incident highlighted an abuse of public transport, with potential consequences for safety and territorial control.
Reduced sentence but firm principle
The ruling found damage to the Casalnuovo administration's finances and reputation, imposing a lower compensation than the prosecutor's initial request. "It's a well-established principle: no one may use public transportation for personal purposes," commented Borrelli, emphasizing that municipal vehicles should serve the public only.
The MP thanked students and citizens for reporting the incident, calling it "essential civic participation for legality." He announced ongoing vigilance to prevent recurrences and protect the credibility of institutions.

This case highlights the importance of monitoring public transportation users. The sentencing of the two non-commissioned officers seems just, but I hope it serves as a warning to others not to repeat similar behavior. Personal use of public resources must always be avoided for the good of the community.
