A theft completed in a matter of moments, and an escape that lasted even less. In Sorrento, a 31-year-old man was arrested by the Carabinieri on charges of stealing an electric scooter that had just been parked by its owner.
Mohammed Abedelbaki, an Algerian national already known to law enforcement, was arrested. The incident occurred late in the morning, just after 10:00 a.m. A woman had parked her electric scooter to walk away for a few minutes. From a short distance away, the man reportedly observed the scene, waiting for the right moment.
When the owner left, the thirty-one-year-old approached the vehicle and climbed in, attempting to quickly drive away. However, his escape was brief. Municipal police officers, along with Carabinieri officers from the Sorrento station, arrived on the scene and intercepted and arrested him a few minutes later. The man was arrested and charged with theft. After his arrest, he was released to the judicial authorities and is now awaiting trial.

The whole thing seems strange to me. The woman left, but the scooter remained in place. The boy got on it and drove off without thinking. The Carabinieri and the municipal police arrived later, but they weren't ready, and they arrested him after a few seconds. I don't know.
