NAPLES – Residential burglaries are on the rise again in Campania. In 2024, 9.812 burglaries were recorded in the region, a 9,4% increase over the previous year. This figure, equal to 17,6 burglaries per 10 inhabitants, remains below the national average of 26,4, placing Campania fourteenth in the Italian rankings.
The picture emerges from the fourth edition of the Censis-Verisure Home Security Observatory, created in collaboration with the Criminal Analysis Service of the Department of Public Security of the Ministry of the InteriorThe study captures a phenomenon that has shown constant growth in recent years: between 2019 and 2024, residential burglaries in Campania increased by 11,9% overall.
Alongside thefts, home robberies, i.e., violent intrusions into the home, are also recorded. In 2024, there were 166 incidents, equivalent to three per 100 inhabitants. In terms of incidence per population, Campania ranks seventh nationally, tied with Basilicata.
Despite the overall growth in recent years, 2025 appears to offer a different perspective. The first half of the year saw a significant decline in reported thefts: between January and June, there were 3.619, a 15,9% decrease compared to the same period in 2024, when there were 4.302 cases.
The province of Naples remains among the most affected in terms of absolute number of incidents. In 2024, there were 4.189 residential burglaries, placing it sixth among Italian provinces. Compared to 2023, this still represents a 3,7% increase. However, 2025 also shows signs of a reversal: in the first six months of the year, there were 1.631 burglaries, a 14,3% decrease from 1.902 in the same period the previous year.
An even more marked reduction was recorded in the province of Caserta, where in the first half of 2025 there were 706 residential burglaries, compared to 926 in the first six months of 2024, a decrease of 23,8%.
The situation is different in the province of Salerno, where the phenomenon appears to be largely stable. In the first six months of 2025, 760 thefts were recorded, compared to 751 in the same period of the previous year, a minimal increase of 1,2%.
Overall, the home security situation remains fragile. In 2025, the Censis-Verisure index, which measures the level of real and perceived home security in various Italian regions, places Campania in nineteenth place, the same position it occupied in 2024. This indicates that, despite initial signs of improvement, the perception of vulnerability in homes remains widespread.
