Anti-Camorra Blitz: 71 Arrests, Also Includes Second Killer by Emanuele Durante

A major dawn operation against the Neapolitan Camorra. Carabinieri from the Investigative Unit and officers from the Naples Flying Squad, coordinated by the Naples District Anti-Mafia Directorate, executed four arrest warrants against 71 suspects.

Investigators are targeting organizations linked to the Mazzarella Clan and Secondigliano Alliance cartels, which have historically dominated large areas of the capital and the province.

The new map of power in the neighborhoods

The investigation reconstructed the city's current criminal geography, capturing the territorial divisions among the various clans. The focus was on the neighborhoods of Forcella, Duchesca, Maddalena, Sanità, Vasto, Arenaccia, Borgo Sant'Antonio Abate, Poggioreale, Rione Amicizia, and San Giovanniello.

Investigators have outlined a system of widespread control of the neighborhoods, guaranteed by a stable presence of affiliates and the systematic use of firearms. A military setup, ready to translate into live fire against rival groups to reassert supremacy over the territory.

According to the prosecution's case, those targeted by the precautionary measures include the current leaders of the Mazzarella, Contini, and Savarese-Pirozzi clans, as well as the heads of the individual operational zones.

Extortion, drugs, and wages for prisoners

The investigation documented the structured management of extortion activities against merchants and economic operators, as well as the control of drug dealing centers.
A parallel economic system that included rigorous internal accounting: illicit proceeds were used to pay "salaries" to members, support prisoners, and support their families.

The widespread availability of weapons and the groups' ability to organize armed retaliatory actions were also confirmed, as well as targeted strategies to evade investigations and consolidate alliances with other Camorra organizations.

The Durante murder and the feud for hegemony

One of the four warrants also concerned the alleged second perpetrator of the murder of Emanuele Durante, killed in an ambush on March 15, 2025.
According to the investigative reconstruction, the crime was carried out as revenge for the death of Emanuele Tufano, who was mortally wounded in a firefight on October 24, 2024, during a conflict between groups from the Sanità and Piazza Mercato neighborhoods, both intent on gaining hegemonic control of their respective areas through demonstrations of force.

The alleged instigator and another perpetrator had already been charged with that murder by a previous warrant.

Seizures in multiple regions

Along with the arrests, the judicial authorities ordered the precautionary seizure of bank accounts, properties, and companies linked to some of the suspects, some of which have offices outside of Campania.

A financial coup aimed at dismantling the clans' economic structure, interrupting the financial flow that fuels the organizations' coffers and ensures their operational survival.
The operation marks a new chapter in the state's war against the historic cartels of the Neapolitan Camorra, in a scenario that remains highly tense.
