Caivano – Anti-drug trafficking efforts continue in the heart of Caivano. In the last few hours, Carabinieri officers from the local company have dealt a double blow to the drug market, which appears to have spread throughout the streets of the historic center.
The operation ended with the arrest of three people, all already known to law enforcement, and the seizure of several doses of narcotics.
The chase through the alleys and the kidnapping
The first intervention occurred during a surveillance operation in the city's old town. Officers caught a 34-year-old man selling a dose of cocaine to a passerby in exchange for cash. Upon seeing the uniforms, the man attempted a desperate escape through the alleys, but was quickly apprehended and searched.
Six packages of cocaine and €240 in small bills, believed to be the proceeds of the illegal activity, were found on him. The 34-year-old was placed under house arrest pending trial.
The operational base in the "low"
Shortly thereafter, the Carabinieri's attention shifted to a ground-floor apartment, a typical "basso" in the city center, characterized by a suspicious and constant coming and going of people. Taking advantage of the door left ajar, the officers burst inside, surprising a 40-year-old and a 21-year-old man sitting around a table, busy packaging doses for sale.
The following were found and seized on the table: 15 grams of cocaine and crack cocaine, various cutting and packaging materials; €290 in cash; and four televisions, suspected to be trade goods or the proceeds of theft.
The balance of the operation
While the first suspect was placed under house arrest, the two accomplices in the "lower" section were sent to prison, where they remain at the disposal of the judicial authorities. The operation confirms the maximum investigative effort by law enforcement to free Caivano's historic center from the control of drug dealing hubs.

I think it's a necessary intervention; the Carabinieri were right to intervene, but the social problem remains, and arrests alone can't solve it. People continue to wander through alleys and leave their doors ajar. Prevention and work programs, more ongoing checks, and the cooperation of residents are needed to change the situation.
