After nine months on the run, Ciro Grassia, believed to be a leading figure in the Rinaldi Clan, a dominant Camorra organization in the San Giovanni a Teduccio neighborhood in eastern Naples, has ended his time on the run.
The Carabinieri of the Naples Investigative Unit, coordinated by the Naples District Anti-Mafia Directorate, executed a prison warrant issued by the Attorney General's Office at the Court of Appeal. He faces a final sentence for mafia-related criminal association.
Grassia had disappeared in June 2025, when the military showed up to conduct a search at his home. Since then, he had disappeared, remaining hidden in the territory controlled by the clan.
The capture took place at dawn: the military identified and blocked him in the eastern district of the city, where according to investigators he continued to maintain contacts and exercise his criminal influence.
And now the hunt has begun for all those people who covered up his fugitive status by maintaining ties with his family and clan.
Control of the territory in East Naples
The Rinaldi clan is one of the most deeply rooted Camorra groups in eastern Naples, historically based in the Villa di San Giovanni a Teduccio neighborhood. The clan is involved in numerous criminal activities, including extortion, drug trafficking, racketeering, and the management of illicit businesses in the area.
In recent years, the group has formed alliances with other organizations in the eastern region, becoming one of the most influential criminal hubs in the area and even engaging in violent clashes with rival clans, particularly the Mazzarellas.
Grassia's criminal curriculum
Ciro Grassia, born in Naples in 1963 and originally from the Ponticelli area, has long been considered by investigators to be one of the Rinaldi family's trusted men. His name appears in several investigations into the Camorra in the eastern part of the city.
He had previously been the target of anti-mafia operations and judicial proceedings. In 2019, he was arrested after a period on the run for extortion aggravated by mafia methods, a crime for which he was serving a five-year prison sentence.
His name also appears among the defendants in the trials regarding the feud between criminal gangs active in the eastern part of Naples, proceedings that have led to numerous convictions for mafia association, extortion, and weapons-related crimes.
According to investigations by the District Anti-Mafia Directorate, Grassia allegedly played an operational role in territorial control and the management of extortion activities linked to the Rinaldi clan.

The network of the clan's loyalists
The arrest is part of a series of anti-mafia operations that have targeted the Rinaldi clan in recent years, with dozens of arrests of members and supporters.
Among those historically linked to the gang are his brother Sergio Grassia, considered close to the organization's top brass, and other figures implicated in investigations into the clan war in the eastern part of the city.
With the capture of Ciro Grassia, investigators believe they have dealt a new blow to the criminal network that continues to operate between San Giovanni a Teduccio, Ponticelli and the surrounding neighborhoods of eastern Naples.

I read the news, and it seems important, after months of delay, but I don't know if they've actually stopped the system. The Carabinieri caught him at dawn, but too many people still remain free, and the community doesn't feel protected; more, tighter controls will be needed.
