An illegal landfill site of approximately three hundred square meters was discovered and seized by the Caserta Provincial Police on Via Rossetti, in the Piedimonte di Casolla district. The waste had been accumulated inside the so-called Cava Cocozza, a disused municipal quarry that had over time become an illegal dumping site.
The operation is part of local enforcement efforts aimed at protecting the environment and combating illegal waste dumping. Provincial Police officers, led by Commander Biagio Chiariello, determined that in recent months, unknown individuals had torn down and damaged the fence surrounding the area, thus allowing access to the quarry and the uncontrolled dumping of materials.
During the inspection, various types of waste were found, including mattresses, plastics, wooden furniture, construction waste, bituminous membranes, tires, and textile waste. This considerable accumulation posed a potential hazard to the environment and public health, as well as a potential source of arson, a phenomenon that unfortunately is common in abandoned or degraded areas.
Upon completion of the operations, the entire area was placed under criminal seizure. The quarry was placed in judicial custody by the director of the Environmental Department of the Municipality of Caserta while investigations continue to identify the perpetrators of the illegal dumping. This measure was validated by the judicial authorities and is part of a broader plan to strengthen controls throughout the province to combat the spread of illegal landfills and environmental crimes.

I think it's fair that they seized the quarry, but the situation is much more complicated. The barrier had been torn down for months and no one was checking the waste. It was left there and no one was collecting it. Let's hope the culprits are found and everything is cleaned up soon.
