Castellammare – It's a worrying phenomenon, increasingly frequent and too often underestimated. Child aggression against parents is a dark side of family news, a sign of unrest unfolding within the home and revealing tales of dependence, anger, and desperation.
Stories in which a mother's or father's unconditional affection clashes with the obsessive demand for money, often drug-related. These episodes are difficult to recount, but essential to understanding the extent of a problem that increasingly affects families.
The drama in Castellammare di Stabia
The latest incident occurred in Castellammare di Stabia, where a 22-year-old man attempted to break down his mother's door armed with a knife.
On the other side of the entrance, the woman tried to resist, while her son tried to force the door open with the blade, which he used as an improvised battering ram. The underlying reason for the attack, it emerged, was a persistent request for money to buy a dose of drugs.
It was not the first time that the young man had acted violently towards his mother.
The intervention of the Carabinieri and the arrest
The door held until the Carabinieri arrived, alerted to the dangerous situation. They intervened quickly, detaining the 22-year-old.
He was handcuffed and transferred to Poggioreale prison, where he was held pending a decision by the judicial authorities.
An episode that shines a spotlight on a lesser-reported but equally tragic form of domestic violence: that which sees parents unwittingly become victims of their own children.

It seems to me to be a very serious but also complex situation. Parents shouldn't just be hurt but seek help, but often no institution helps. The child seems drug-dependent, and no one understands. Violence arises from desperation and lack of assistance. More prevention and support should be provided, but this isn't happening.
