Pozzuoli – An unexpected encounter in the silence of dawn, among the calm waters of the Phlegraean Fields.
This morning, Pozzuoli fisherman Nello Lungo captured on his cell phone a dolphin that accompanied his boat for a few minutes as he headed to work off the coast of Miseno.
The scene was filmed at first light, when the sea was still calm and there was almost no boat traffic.
The dolphin that “escorts” the boat
In the video, the cetacean surfaces from the water several times, swimming alongside the boat and maintaining the same direction as the vessel.
The dolphin emerges with rapid and elegant movements, then returns to the surface and reappears shortly after a few meters from the hull, almost as if to act as a guide along the journey.
A sudden appearance that surprised the fisherman himself, accustomed to life at sea but not to such close encounters.
Increasingly frequent sightings in the Gulf
In recent years, the presence of dolphins in the Gulf of Naples has become increasingly common. It's not uncommon for these animals to be spotted in the waters of the Phlegraean Fields or along the Phlegraean Coast, often attracted by the abundance of fish and favorable sea conditions.
The video that conquers social media
The video created by Nello Lungo is already making the rounds on social media among fishermen and sea enthusiasts.
The images show the dolphin emerging elegantly alongside the boat as it slowly glides across the still morning water.
A natural spectacle that transformed a normal working day at sea into a rare and evocative moment, giving the Campi Flegrei another little sea story to tell.

I watched the video and it seemed like the dolphins were near the boat, but I didn't really understand; maybe because of the fish or out of curiosity, the dolphin approached and then disappeared. The fisherman seemed surprised but didn't understand, I was left thinking, I don't know exactly.
