Another incident of violence against public transport staff. An Air Campania driver was attacked this morning inside the Avellino bus station while boarding a bus on the Avellino–Naples route to begin service.
According to an initial reconstruction of events, a man began pushing the driver in front of him as he was getting into the vehicle. When the driver asked him to behave civilly, the man allegedly reacted violently.
Pulled and hit in the back of the head
The attacker grabbed the driver by the jacket and forcefully pulled him. The driver fell to the ground and, while still struggling, was punched in the back of the head. The man then fled and disappeared without a trace.
The incident is part of a long series of attacks involving local public transport staff in recent months.
The company's complaint: "More protections are needed."
Air Campania's administrator, Anthony Acconcia, reacted harshly, expressing his solidarity with the attacked employee.
"This is a very serious incident," he declared. "Once again, one of our workers has been attacked while simply doing his job."
The manager also emphasized the coincidence with the strike day called by the unions to demand greater safety guarantees for drivers.
"This incident, which occurred on the very day of the protest, dramatically demonstrates how real and urgent the problem is. Concrete and immediate action is needed to protect train crews. My full solidarity goes out to Ciro," Acconcia concluded.
