Messina – She was stabbed to death with dozens of wounds in her home. The victim, Daniela Zinnanti, 50, was murdered in her home on Via Lombardia, in the Lombardo neighborhood of Messina. Police arrested her ex-partner, Santino Bonfiglio, 67, for the crime, and he reportedly confessed during questioning.
According to initial investigations by the Flying Squad, the man went to the woman's home for clarification. An argument broke out between the two, which escalated into a violent attack that culminated in the femicide.
The discovery of the body
The victim's daughter made the tragic discovery. Unable to contact her mother, she went to her home to look for her, only to find her lifeless. Upon seeing the body, she fainted and was taken to the hospital.
Investigators believe the murder may have occurred the day before the body was found.
The arrest of the ex-partner
The police investigation immediately focused on Santino Bonfiglio, the victim's ex-partner. He was questioned in the presence of his lawyer, Oleg Traclò, and reportedly admitted his guilt, saying he had gone to the woman to talk and try to reconcile.
After his arrest, he was transferred to prison on charges of murder.
The knife found near the house
Flying Squad officers also recovered the murder weapon: a knife found in a dumpster not far from the victim's apartment. The woman was apparently stabbed repeatedly with that weapon.
A relationship marked by violence
The two had long had a troubled relationship. Daniela Zinnanti had previously filed a complaint against her ex-partner for mistreatment, but later withdrew the complaint.
About a month ago, according to investigators, the man allegedly assaulted her again, forcing her to seek treatment at Piemonte Hospital. After that incident, the woman decided to report him again and permanently end the relationship.
The electronic bracelet knot
Bonfiglio had been arrested and placed under house arrest after the latest attack. The judge had also ordered the application of an electronic bracelet, but it was not installed due to the unavailability of the devices.
A circumstance that is now being investigated in the latest femicide.
The family's anger
The victim's brother, Roberto Zinnanti, speaks of a history of violence and repeated reunions.
"He reported it, but the system isn't working," he said, denouncing the failure of protective measures. "We're desperate."

Sad news, but no controversy. I think the system didn't work well; the victim had already filed a complaint but then withdrew it. The bracelet wasn't installed. The authorities should explain and find solutions. The family is left confused and alone; no one was checking in.
