It was just past midnight, around 3:30 a.m., when what should have been a festive evening turned into yet another nightmare. On the night of March 8th, outside a nightclub on Via Ripuaria, in Giugliano in Campania, a 35-year-old woman was reportedly brutally attacked by her partner, a 42-year-old man who was later arrested by the Carabinieri.
According to the reconstruction, the man, clearly impaired by alcohol, approached the woman while she was in the club. She, fearful, attempted to move away, but was caught and bitten on the lips. The violence then continued outside, where the 42-year-old grabbed her by the hair, dragged her out of the club, and then kicked, punched, and slapped her.
The escape and the request for help
In those dramatic moments, the victim reportedly managed to free herself and cross the street with her last bit of strength. A friend was with her, who followed her, but was unable to stop the man's fury.
The presence of a Carabinieri patrol nearby, their flashing lights clearly visible, was providential. Upon seeing the officers, the man allegedly threatened his partner, telling her to stay quiet and not attract attention. But the 35-year-old's cries and screams of pain immediately attracted the Carabinieri.
One of the officers approached and found the woman sitting on the side of the road, with a facial injury and severe distress. The 35-year-old recounted what had just happened and called for help, begging the Carabinieri to remove her partner, who was still a few meters away.
The two years of abuse
The Carabinieri immediately arrested the 42-year-old man and transported him to the police station, while medical personnel were called in for the woman. The victim reported to the police a pattern of violence that had continued for approximately two years.
"From Friday afternoon to Sunday, it's like this," the woman reportedly told the police, explaining that for a long time she had lived in a spiral of fear and oppression. "I'm afraid he'll kill me and hurt my son," she reportedly added.
The 35-year-old, despite the abuse she had suffered over time, had never filed a complaint before tonight.
The woman was transferred to Cardarelli Hospital in Naples, where she was treated and kept under observation. The 42-year-old man was arrested by the Carabinieri and taken to prison.
He will have to answer to charges of domestic abuse and personal injury.
