A long and tense meeting culminated in an unexpected turn of events. At the end of the meeting held at the Prefecture in Naples, Harmont & Blaine announced the withdrawal of the dismissal procedure that had alarmed workers and trade unions.

The decision came after hours of strike action and a picket line in front of the company gates, following a meeting described as tough by the unions. Representatives of CGIL and CISL, along with delegates from the sector's trade unions, participated in the institutional discussion. Those present included Raffaele Paudice for CGIL Naples and Campania, Andrea Pastore and Vincenzo Acanfora for Filctem CGIL, as well as secretaries Melicia Comberiati for CISL Naples and Anna Pareni for Femca CISL.

The CGIL and CISL unions themselves commented on the outcome of the meeting, emphasizing the value of worker mobilization and the role played by the Prefecture in facilitating dialogue between the parties. "After a tough discussion with the company, thanks to worker mobilization and the active contribution of the Naples Prefecture, today Harmont & Blaine announced the withdrawal of the dismissal procedure and accepted the union's request for access to social safety nets to manage the company crisis."

The unions are calling it a significant achievement but urge caution, as the upcoming phase will still be complex. "While we are pleased with the outcome, after hours of strike action and protests by Harmont & Blaine workers, we are aware of the sacrifice that will be required of the workers and the difficulty of a path that still needs to be built."

However, according to the unions, the company's decision represents a crucial first step towards safeguarding jobs in a region that has experienced numerous industrial crises and deindustrialization in recent years. "A first step towards protecting jobs, in a region profoundly affected by crises and deindustrialization, has been taken, and we will remain at the workers' side in defense of their dignity and jobs."

For the unions, the incident once again demonstrates the power of collective mobilization in industrial disputes. "Once again, we have demonstrated that worker mobilization and responsibility are key to addressing crises and restoring dignity to the region."
