Naples – A mass, the release of white balloons, and a silent procession remembered Emanuele Durante, the young man killed in a Camorra-related ambush in Naples. A year after his death, family, friends, and neighborhood residents gathered at the Church of San Giorgio Maggiore, just outside Forcella, to commemorate the young man.

Between emotion and reflection, his mother Valeria Brancaccio remembered her son and renewed her call for justice.

"It's been a year since my son's disappearance, and it feels like the first day. Out of their strength, to show that they mattered, they chose to sacrifice my son. I also wish that all those who contributed to my son's death pay for everything. Because the pain they caused me will never end in my heart. I ask for justice, not revenge," the woman explained to TGR Campania.

The ambush in traffic

Emanuele Durante was killed at the age of 19 in an ambush on Via Santa Teresa degli Scalzi. The young man was in a car with his girlfriend when two men on a scooter approached him in traffic and opened fire, killing him.

According to the investigation, the murder apparently stemmed from internal tensions within the Sequino clan and had a clear revenge motive.
The crime, in fact, would have been a response to the killing of Emanuele Tufano, which occurred about six months earlier during a settling of scores within the same criminal organization. Durante was aware that he had become a potential target.

The procession of memory

After the religious service, the young man's memory continued with a silent procession. Emanuele's image was carried through the neighborhood streets.

The procession passed through several symbolic places, passing in front of the library dedicated to her cousin Annalisa and the Glass House, until reaching Piazzetta Sedil Capuano.

Here the family built a small mausoleum in memory of the boy, which in recent months has become a place of reflection and remembrance.

The investigation and the arrests of the killers

The murder of Emanuele Durante was reconstructed by investigators from the Naples District Anti-Mafia Directorate through months of investigations, analysis of video surveillance footage, and investigative work in the area.

The turning point came with a series of pre-trial detention orders executed by the Flying Squad and Carabinieri of the Naples Provincial Command's Investigative Unit. A total of 16 people were arrested, including six minors, believed to be involved in various capacities in two separate but related crimes: the murders of Emanuele Tufano and Emanuele Durante.

According to investigators' reconstruction, Durante's murder was planned and organized within the Camorra group linked to the Sequino clan, active between the Sanità district and the Piazza Mercato area. The murder had a dual objective: to avenge Tufano's death and to reassert the clan's control over the area following the feud between rival groups.

Among those targeted by the precautionary measures served at two different times are the alleged perpetrators of the ambush and the instigator, accused of planning and carrying out the armed action that took place on the afternoon of March 15th in Via Santa Teresa degli Scalzi.

The investigation allowed a detailed reconstruction of the attack: two men riding a scooter allegedly approached the car driven by the young man in city traffic. They were Salvatore Pellecchia and Alexander Babylan. The passenger fired the fatal shot from the driver's side before fleeing. The scene was partially captured by local security cameras, which helped identify the perpetrators.

In the following months, the investigation further expanded as part of a major operation targeting the clans operating between the city center and the Sanità district. In this context, Vincenzo Brandi, born in 1994, was also arrested. Investigators believe he is the third suspected member of the group involved in the crime: according to the prosecution, he drove one of the perpetrators of the attack.

His arrest is part of a broader raid targeting clans linked to the Camorra cartels operating in the city, with dozens of precautionary measures carried out for mafia association, arms trafficking, and murders stemming from feuds between criminal groups.

According to the Naples Antimafia Directorate (DDA), the murder of Emanuele Durante represents one of the most serious episodes in a period of violence that has also involved very young members of criminal gangs, amid armed clashes for control of public squares and to reassert the authority of the clans.
