Ischia – For over two weeks, the island of Ischia has been struggling with a serious logistical deficit. The only vessel specifically designed to transport waste to the mainland has been docked for maintenance since February 27th. Despite initial reassurances, the replacement vessel has never entered service, forcing garbage trucks to switch to regular routes.
Ports and connections in difficulty
This emergency solution is causing the maritime transport system to collapse. The excess of heavy vehicles on scheduled ferries, particularly on the Pozzuoli-Ischia route, is saturating garage capacity. Couriers and companies transporting essential goods are bearing the brunt of this, seeing their vehicles excluded from morning runs due to lack of space.
The alarm for the tourist season
Concern among business operators is at a fever pitch. As Easter approaches and the official opening of the tourist season, the need for supplies for hotels and restaurants will increase exponentially. Trade associations have already raised the alarm: without an immediate solution, there is a risk of a supply disruption that would jeopardize the reception of the first influx of visitors.
The summit will be held at the Prefecture on Tuesday
To prevent protests and ensure regular connections, the Prefecture of Naples has taken action. A technical meeting has been convened for next Tuesday, involving shipping companies and maritime authorities. The goal is to break the deadlock and restore waste management that doesn't impact the regular mobility of the "green" island.

It seems to me that the situation on the island has been very critical for weeks, trucks are piling up on ferries and goods are not leaving; the authorities apparently haven't found a solution, the shipping companies are procrastinating and hoping for a summit on Tuesday, but few certainties remain.
