Maddaloni – A heist involving over 3,000 meters of copper cable was foiled overnight by Carabinieri officers from the Maddaloni Company, in the Caserta area. A daring chase ended with the recovery of the entire haul and two vehicles, while the criminals managed to escape into the countryside, taking advantage of the darkness.
The blitz and the escape in the dark
It was just after midnight when a patrol, engaged in a territorial control operation, noticed a suspicious convoy made up of three vehicles traveling side by side at high speed.
They were a black Audi A6 station wagon, a BMW 530d, and a white Volkswagen Transporter van. The officers were suspicious of the foreign license plates displayed—which later turned out to be Bulgarian and Polish registrations, but did not match the vehicles—and their driving style.
When ordered to stop, the drivers didn't hesitate: they accelerated sharply, attempting to flee. A chase ensued, ending shortly thereafter when the fugitives, realizing they had been caught, opted for a hasty retreat. Some fled in the Audi, managing to escape the Carabinieri, while the occupants of the BMW and the van fled on foot, disappearing into the darkness of the surrounding countryside.
The loot and the abandoned vehicles
Once the abandoned vehicles were secured, the officers made their discovery. Inside the BMW and the van, they found two large shears and a large quantity of copper wire, cut into pieces approximately three meters long. The total length of the recovered material was estimated at approximately 3000 meters, a haul of considerable economic value.
The stolen goods, the provenance of which is now being investigated by investigators, were seized along with the two vehicles used to transport them.
Carabinieri from the Maddaloni Company responded to the scene and, coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Santa Maria Capua Vetere, began investigations to identify the gang members.
Investigators are now analyzing images from surveillance cameras in the area and data relating to the vehicles to trace the identity of the fugitives and reconstruct the exact origin of the copper cables, presumably removed from some infrastructure in the area shortly before the raid.

I partially agree, but we'd like to know where the cut kavi came from and whether they were taken from a public or private infrastructure. Investigations into license plates and foreign registrations will be decisive, but it takes time and precision.
Important news, but with several grey areas. The Carabinieri have done what they could, but it seems the thieves have disappeared into the countryside. The fake license plates and abandoned vehicles are leaving many perplexed. We hope the cameras will solve the mystery.
