Marano – The silence of Via Svizzera was shattered by the sharp roar of twelve 9mm gunshots. A military-style execution in the heart of Marano took the life of Castrese Palumbo, 79, known as 'o svitapierno, a historic figure in the local criminal scene.
The man's body was found slumped in the driver's seat of his Toyota Yaris, right on the corner of Corso Europa, in a part of the city that for decades has been a borderland of power.
The ambush and the final blows
According to an initial reconstruction, still being examined by investigators, the hit squad acted with surgical precision. At least twelve spent shell casings were recovered from the ground by Carabinieri from the Marano Company, who responded quickly to the scene. The hitmen aimed squarely at the target: several bullets struck Palumbo in the head, leaving him no chance of escape.
A clean, quick "job," typical of those who know how to navigate the alleys of an area where even the walls seem to have eyes.
The profile: a loyal supporter of the Nuvolettas
Castrese Palumbo wasn't just any name in the DDA archives. Already known to law enforcement for numerous criminal convictions, his name is inextricably linked to the history of the Nuvolettas, the clan of "lords" of Marano. Castrese Palumbo's nephew is currently in prison for the murder of Corrado Finale, the young man who was hit by a car a year and a half ago after an argument.
The slopes: revenge or new order?
The area where the crime took place is now under surveillance by the military, who are carrying out technical surveys and searching for any surveillance cameras that may have captured the killers' escape. The shadow of the Nuvoletta clan, or what remains of its historical structure, once again looms over Marano.
It remains to be seen whether Palumbo's murder is a settling of scores over old, unresolved grudges or the beginning of a new wave of tension for control of illicit trafficking in an area where power vacuums never last long.

Reading the article, it seems serious, but there's a lot that doesn't add up: the details are mixed up, the names are written incorrectly, and the dates seem off. The story is jerky, and it doesn't fully explain who was with him, so the motive remains unclear; it seems like another round of backroom action.
