The management of the Colli Hospital has forwarded to the Naples Public Prosecutor's Office the reports received from healthcare personnel following the tragic operation on December 23, 2025, when a damaged heart transplant was performed at Monaldi Hospital on Domenico Caliendo, the two-year-old boy who later died on February 21.
In an official statement, the health department explained that after that episode, several communications were received from operators working in the operating room of the Pediatric Cardiac Surgery and Congenital Heart Disease Complex Operating Unit.
All reports—along with transfer requests from some workers—were immediately forwarded to the Occupational Medicine Department and the Head of the Prevention and Protection Service, so that any correlation with work-related stress situations could be assessed, including in relation to the dramatic event that occurred in December.
The reference to the operators' letter
The company's statement also aims to "avoid a flood of information that risks delegitimizing the work of an entire hospital."
The reference is to the letter sent at the end of January by some operating room staff to the facility's management, which also reported alleged offensive behavior by a cardiac surgeon currently under investigation in the inquiry into the child's death.
Documents also sent to the disciplinary office
According to Colli Company, the documentation was also sent to the Disciplinary Proceedings Office at the same time.
After a comprehensive assessment of the facts and subsequent conduct, the office apparently decided to adopt particularly serious precautionary measures: suspension from service and assignment for several doctors, with differing positions among the professionals involved.
The prosecutor's investigation
The Naples Public Prosecutor's Office is investigating the case, having in February placed seven people under investigation on charges of manslaughter. The documentation relating to the internal reports has already been forwarded to investigators.
Checks also on the internal communications process
The health authority's General Management has also asked the nursing director to verify whether there are any further communications that have not followed the normal process established by the company's organizational chart.
The internal protocol establishes that each employee must report to their complex structure director, who in turn reports to the department head and subsequently to the medical director of the facility, the health or administrative director, and finally to the general director.
An administrative audit aimed at precisely reconstructing the chain of internal reports in the phase following the tragic intervention.

I understand the concern but I don't want to judge immediately. We need clarity and transparency. The procedures appear not to have been followed correctly. There are many poorly communicated and delayed reports. I hope the investigations will bring light and support to the staff and families involved.
