A political storm has erupted over personnel management at Naples' Monaldi Hospital. At the center of criticism from Fulvio Martusciello, regional coordinator of Forza Italia, is the transfer of Dr. Oppido's wife from Santobono to Azienda dei Colli. The Forza Italia leader points the finger at the authorization that allowed the professional, originally hired at the pediatric hospital, to land in the same department as her husband.
Conflict of interest and post-operative checks
According to Martusciello, the critical issue lies not only in the family proximity, but in the specific tasks assigned to the doctor.
"She's a cardiologist assigned to a cardiac surgery department," the Forza Italia representative insists, emphasizing that the woman's role was to follow patients in the post-operative phase. Essentially, the professional would have found herself monitoring the outcomes of procedures performed by her surgeon husband, a circumstance described as "inappropriate from the outset."
The recent move into pediatric cardiology
The situation has recently accelerated with the doctor's transfer to the pediatric cardiology department. For Martusciello, this move represents a sort of implicit admission of the previous mistake: "If this transfer was deemed necessary today, it means that the anomaly of the previous assignment has finally been understood."
The appeal to the General Management
The Forza Italia secretary is now directly challenging the leadership of the Colli Hospital. He is calling on the general director, Anna Iervolino, to shed full light on the circumstances that led to the initial transfer, requesting that she disclose the technical and administrative assessments that, at the time, made it possible for the couple to work together in the same specialist department.
