With great composure and a calmness that struck the entire stadium, Patrizia Mercolino addressed Napoli fans a few minutes before the match against Lecce.

On the sidelines of the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, the mother of Domenico Caliendo—the child who died after a failed heart transplant at Monaldi Hospital—spoke with a firm voice, transforming her immense grief into a message of solidarity.
Next to her were her husband Antonio Caliendo and the lawyer Francesco Petruzzi.

The memory of Domenico

In front of the fans, mother Patrizia read a letter dedicated to her son. Deep words, spoken without emphasis but with a dignity that made the moment even more poignant.
"I don't know if my heart can ever mend, probably not. Maybe it won't. But the difference with Domenico is that mine is still beating," she said.

A pain expressed with clarity, without giving in to anger, but with an extraordinary ability to transform suffering into memory and commitment.

The support of the fans

The woman wanted to publicly thank the fans who, during the most difficult days, showed their closeness to the family.

"If I'm here in the center of the stadium today, I owe it only to your support. You hoped and cried with us."

A simple acknowledgement, pronounced with the same calm that accompanied his entire speech.

The Foundation's project

It was precisely from that closeness that the idea for the Domenico Caliendo Foundation was born, the project the family is trying to realize.

"You tell me we have to do something, that pain must be transformed into strength. It's not easy, but somehow we owe it to you."
The goal is to create a structure capable of supporting families facing similar experiences.

"We're trying to become a foundation that can assist those in situations similar to ours, before, during, and after."

The last message to his son

The appeal ended with intimate words, addressed directly to Domenico.
"Help us create this Foundation. We want it for ourselves, for you, and for Domenico. He can see me from up there and perhaps be proud of this devastated mother, but he also feels guilty. I love you, my little one."

Words spoken with great dignity, before a silent stadium, where a mother's grief was transformed into a collective call for solidarity.
