The Carabinieri of the Naples Borgoloreto station carried out a wide-ranging operation in the Mercato district, in close collaboration with technicians from Enel Distribuzione SpA.
The intervention aimed to combat the phenomenon of illegal connections and to verify the regularity of energy consumption in the areas with the highest population density.
The system of illegal connections in the condominium
During the checks, the military identified a condominium on Via Padre Ludovico da Casoria in the Case Nuove area where a complex system of illegal connections had been set up.
The utilities of the six homes were connected directly to Enel's infrastructure through fraudulent connections, bypassing the standard meters and causing a huge amount of electricity to be withdrawn without payment.
The six suspects and the investigation
The Carabinieri reported six people, three men and three women, aged between 38 and 55, residing in the same building.
Together with law enforcement, Enel experts are quantifying the financial damage caused to the distribution company, which could translate into significant costs for illicit consumption accumulated over time.

Interesting but confusing article, it's unclear who's monitoring it and how. The police found wires directly attached, and utilities were connected without meters, but the financial damage isn't fully explained. Perhaps more clarity and official documents are needed to understand everything and see the real implications.
