Naples – An area as large as half a soccer field has been transformed into an open-air parking garage without any permit or environmental protection. This is what officers of the Naples Local Police discovered on Via Emilio Scaglione, where an operation by the IAES (Environmental Investigation and Social Emergency) unit led to the seizure of approximately 3.550 square meters.
The raid on Via Scaglione: risk of environmental disaster
At the time of the police raid, approximately 100 cars were parked in the parking lot, presumably belonging to commuters using the hilly metro system. However, the facility was found to be completely lacking the necessary systems for managing first rainwater and runoff.
Without appropriate filtration systems, hazardous substances such as hydrocarbons and waste oil risked seeping directly into the subsoil, threatening groundwater. For this reason, the owner of the area was charged with environmental crimes in violation of the Consolidated Environmental Act and regional regulations.
Flash evacuation: 36 hours to clear the area
The Public Prosecutor on duty has taken a very firm stance, ordering the complete evacuation of the site. Vehicle owners and managers will have a strict 36-hour deadline to vacate the area of people and property before the seizure becomes fully effective, blocking access.
"High Impact" in the Sanità District: zero tolerance
At the same time, the Municipal Police, in collaboration with the State Police, combed the streets of the Sanità district as part of a "High Impact" operation. The goal: to restore the neighborhood's dignity by combating illegal parking and the racket of illegal parking attendants.
The impact of the intervention on the territory is significant:
12 vehicles forcibly removed by tow truck;
2 illegal parking attendants reported and issued with an eviction order;
28 fines for violations of the Highway Code;
1 seizure of an uninsured vehicle.
The operation is part of a broader plan to combat urban decay that is affecting several key areas of the city, from the outskirts to the historic center.
