Naples – It wasn't just a simple act of vandalism, but the latest, violent warning of a year-long terror campaign. On Saturday morning, around 6:00 a.m., the silence of Via Metastasio was shattered by flames that engulfed and destroyed the Fiat Punto owned by a well-known local businessman, owner of a car scrapyard.
The timely intervention of the firefighters and police cars was not enough to save the vehicle, which was reduced to a smoking wreck. At the scene of the fire, however, investigators found the signature of the attack: a bottle containing residue of flammable liquid, irrefutable evidence of the arsonist nature of the fire.
A Year Under Siege: The Shadow of the Camorra
What initially appeared to be an isolated incident revealed itself, in the eyes of investigators, to be the culmination of a full-blown ordeal. Interviewed by officers from the San Paolo Police Station and the Flying Squad, the entrepreneur filed a complaint, reconstructing a 2025 experience where he was targeted by unknown perpetrators.
According to the victim, the threats began over twelve months ago: anonymous phone calls, incessant requests for money from unidentified voices, and targeted damage: a series of intimidating incidents aimed at weakening the man's resistance.
A psychological and economic pressure that reflects the typical traits of Camorra extortion, even though the perpetrators have never physically revealed themselves.
The investigation is now in full swing. Police have already acquired video surveillance footage from the area to identify the person who lit the fuse at dawn on Saturday. Investigators are trying to determine whether organized crime, attempting to extort protection money from businesses in the Fuorigrotta neighborhood, was behind the attack.

It seems like a never-ending story to me, the police did what they could, but it's never enough, the threats are repeated and people don't know how to react, the businessman reported it but what happens next? The fear and lack of safety on the streets remain, everything remains a mystery.
