It wasn't the first time. And the Carabinieri of the San Cipriano d'Aversa station knew it well when, on the afternoon of March 4th, they encountered a 40-year-old woman who, visibly frightened, came to the station to recount the hell she'd experienced within the four walls of her home. Her live-in partner, a 41-year-old local man, had once again lost control.
The man was already under house arrest for previous crimes against property and the person—a precautionary measure that evidently hadn't been enough to curb his violent nature. Drunk, clearly impaired by alcohol abuse, he had begun threatening and insulting his partner, with whom he shared a home.
The flames on the child's clothes: the gesture that triggered the alarm
But the most chilling moment of the story is another. During his rampage, the 41-year-old reportedly grabbed some clothes belonging to his younger son—who was also in the house—and set them on fire. An act charged with symbolic and real violence, testifying to the extent to which the situation had degenerated.
It was probably that act that gave the woman the strength to leave the house and go to the police station. A far from obvious choice, in family contexts where fear and emotional dependence often silence victims for years.
The complaint and the investigations of the Carabinieri
After interviewing the woman, the Carabinieri immediately launched an investigation, gathering brief information from her family. The testimonies gathered confirmed what they had feared: this was not an isolated incident, but a pattern of violent and habitual behavior, a pattern of domestic violence that had recurred over time and had transformed the home into a place of fear.
Following their investigation, the Carabinieri arrested the 41-year-old on charges of domestic violence. He was taken to the Santa Maria Capua Vetere prison, where he is currently being held by the judicial authorities.
For his partner and youngest son, finally, the end of a nightmare. At least for now.
