It was around 10 a.m. when the Carabinieri arrested the man in Sorrento on suspicion of theft. The 31-year-old, an illegal immigrant and already known to law enforcement for specific criminal offenses, had attempted to steal an electric scooter belonging to a woman.
Carabinieri officers and municipal police officers responded to the scene. The man was arrested and brought before the judicial authorities for a summary hearing scheduled for the following morning.
Validation without precautionary measures
The judge confirmed the arrest but did not apply precautionary measures against the suspect. This decision effectively released the 31-year-old.
However, his stay outside the cells lasted only a few hours.
The second hit and the new arrest
Around 4:30 PM, in Meta di Sorrento, the Carabinieri from the Piano di Sorrento station caught him again, this time immediately after he had stolen an e-bike belonging to a 55-year-old local woman.
The second intervention by the military was immediate: the 31-year-old was stopped and arrested again.
Transferred to Poggioreale prison
Following his re-arrest, the man was transferred to the Poggioreale prison in Naples, where he remains at the disposal of the judicial authorities pending validation of the order.

The story seems strange to me because the details aren't clear, and the facts are confusing. The 31-year-old man was arrested, then released without restraint, and shortly afterward he returned to steal the e-bike. The Carabinieri did their job, but the judge's decision seemed contradictory and unclear.
