NAPLES – For weeks, things hadn't added up. Products were disappearing from shelves without explanation, with constant shortages concentrated at night. The investigation was triggered by a tip-off from the head of corporate asset protection for the Sole365 chain, who contacted the Carabinieri at the Traiano station in Naples to report the situation at the supermarket on Via Diocleziano, in Fuorigrotta.
The officers organized a targeted operation. Dressed in civilian clothes, they stationed themselves near the store, discreetly monitoring entrances and movements in the parking lot. The wait was short. Two workers from the company responsible for restocking the shelves attracted the Carabinieri's attention as they repeatedly approached their respective cars. The trunks opened and were filled with merchandise taken from the supermarket.
At that point, the intervention was triggered. The two men, aged 41 and 49, were stopped and subjected to a search. Inside the vehicles, the officers found products worth approximately €90 in the first man's car and approximately €450 in that of the second colleague. The merchandise, according to the findings, had recently been stolen from the shelves.
Both were arrested on suspicion of theft. The recovered goods were returned to their rightful owners, while the two arrested remain awaiting trial. This operation puts an end to a series of quiet thefts committed during work shifts, when the employer's trust was betrayed by taking advantage of the absence of customers and reduced nighttime security.

They returned the goods and the two arrested await trial, but the matter remains complex. Perhaps more frequent checks and a video surveillance system or register of those restocking the shelves should have been implemented to prevent these silent thefts.
I've been reading similar things for weeks, but I didn't explain them well. Now this article makes me think that trust was betrayed. The Carabinieri did the right thing, but there was too little nighttime surveillance; the workers seemed to be taking advantage of the lack of controls. Let's hope measures are taken soon.
