Vico Equense – An afternoon of work in the fields turned into a tragedy that chilled the heart of the Sorrento Peninsula. Benedetto Cinque, 35, lost his life yesterday while tending his farmland in Massaquano, a hamlet in the upper reaches of Vico Equense.
The man fell from a tree, ending up in a stream below: an impact that left him no escape.
The dynamics of the accident
According to initial investigations by the Carabinieri and Municipal Police, who arrived immediately on the scene, the thirty-five-year-old was busy pruning. A moment of distraction, an unstable position, or perhaps a sudden illness: the causes of the accident are currently being investigated by the magistrate on duty.
The fall ended in the creek bed, making rescue operations extremely complex due to the terrain. Despite the rapid intervention of emergency teams, there was nothing that could be done for the man.
A destroyed family
The news has hit the small village of Massaquano hard, where Benedetto was well-known and respected. Described as a hard worker dedicated to his family and a devoted husband, his passing leaves an immeasurable void: he leaves behind a wife and three young children. The land that for generations had provided sustenance and life for local families suddenly became the scene of heartbreaking grief yesterday.
The community's condolences
Grief over the loss of a young life has spread rapidly throughout the city. Among the first messages of sympathy was that of the Circolo Cacciatori: President Francesco Somma, along with all the members, expressed deep condolences for the passing of their member and friend. "We stand with his wife and three children in this moment of immense suffering," the club stated. At this time, the body remains at the disposal of the authorities for the usual examinations prior to the funeral.

This is devastating news; it appears to have been a prolonged accident between the trees and the stream. Authorities will need to clarify the situation, but the community of Massaquano remains disoriented and shocked. Rescue workers did what they could. Condolences to the family and the young children.
