A violent road accident occurred yesterday, Saturday, March 7, along the outer ring road between Melito and Arzano, in the northern province of Naples.
For reasons still under investigation, two cars collided violently on the arterial road, one of the busiest in the area. The impact was particularly forceful and left the vehicles completely destroyed, their bodies crumpled to the asphalt.
The impact on traffic was immediate: traffic was paralyzed for a long time, causing delays and inconvenience to motorists traveling along the ring road.
Road safety warning
The incident refocuses attention on the safety conditions of the outer ring road, which has long been the subject of controversy due to the number of accidents recorded along the route.
"Yet another serious accident on one of the busiest arteries in the northern area demonstrates once again that road safety remains an emergency," said MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli.
Borrelli: "Structural interventions and more controls are needed."
The parliamentarian called for urgent action to make the road safe. "We ask that safety improvements on the ring road be prioritized," he explained, "a stretch of road where serious accidents occur all too frequently and where drivers' behavior is reckless to say the least, also because of the lack of adequate infrastructure."
Borrelli also highlighted a recurring problem related to the improper use of sidewalks. "As demonstrated by the numerous videos I receive every week," he added, "sidewalks are being used as bus lanes, seriously endangering pedestrian safety."
Hence the appeal to the institutions: "We need decisive structural interventions, more effective signage, increased controls, and all the necessary measures to prevent this road from continuing to be the scene of tragedies."

This is a useful post, but it highlights the unsafe condition of the Circumvallasione, with its traffic jams and lack of signals. Drivers don't respect the rules, and the authorities should intervene more frequently, but slow and partial solutions are often expected. Furthermore, the pedestrian lanes are often poorly used, and the sidewalks are overrun, making the road unsafe for pedestrians and cyclists.
