Arzano – A swift, violent operation, the details of which are still unclear. What seemed like a routine night shift turned into a high-impact operation for the Carabinieri of the Grumo Nevano station, culminating in the arrest of three young men and the referral of two others. The charges, of varying degrees, are serious: brawling, battery, aggravated threats, receiving stolen goods, and illegal possession of weapons.

The attack among the slot machines

It all began in the middle of the night inside a bar in Arzano. Two young men were playing slot machines when they were surprised by three uncovered peers. The attack was brutal: one of the attackers pointed a gun at one victim's face, while the other struck the second boy in the head with the butt of his gun. A few seconds of terror followed, and then they fled.

When the military arrived on the scene, the attackers were nowhere to be found. However, the images from the video surveillance systems proved crucial, allowing the Carabinieri to identify the perpetrators in record time.

Omertà and guns on the sofa

The investigation initially encountered a wall of silence. The victims, located shortly thereafter, proved uncooperative. One of the two assaulted men, a 20-year-old already known to law enforcement, even went so far as to provide false personal details to conceal his violation of the residence requirement he was subject to: he was subsequently reported.

Despite the reticence of those involved, the police launched an all-night manhunt. House searches led to the capture of the three alleged perpetrators: a 23-year-old and a 19-year-old with no criminal record, and a 22-year-old with a criminal record. It was in the latter's home that the most disturbing discovery was made: a 7.65 caliber semi-automatic pistol, loaded with seven rounds of ammunition and ready for use, was hidden on the couch where the young man was sleeping.

The black market for weapons

The seized weapon opened a further investigative front. The pistol, with a legible serial number, was found to belong to a 40-year-old man who had illegally sold it to pay off debts. The man was charged with failure to report the sale of the weapon.

While the three arrested men have been transferred to prison, investigators continue to dig into what triggered such violence: a settling of scores or a trivial argument that ended in bloodshed.
