It's afternoon when a Carabinieri patrol drives down Via Petraro in Castellammare di Stabia. A few meters away, according to reconstructions, a drug dealing hub is active.
The officers' attention was drawn by the arrival of an electric bicycle. On board was Catello Pio Barretta, 19, a local man already known to law enforcement.
Trying to get rid of drugs
Upon seeing the "gazelle," the young man allegedly tried to throw a small package to the ground. This action was noticed by the Carabinieri, who, having witnessed the scene, decided to intervene immediately.
When asked to stop, the 19-year-old attempts to flee. A chase ensues for a few dozen meters: one of the officers manages to stop him, while the other recovers the discarded package.
Inside the package, approximately 12 grams of narcotics, including hashish and crack, were found. A further personal search revealed another gram of drugs hidden in his pocket.
The young man was arrested on charges of possession with intent to distribute narcotics. By order of the judicial authorities, he was placed under house arrest pending trial.
