Naples – Law enforcement continues to crack down on drug dealing hubs in the northern suburbs. Carabinieri from the Scampia station arrested Luigi Mari, a 53-year-old already known to authorities, on charges of drug dealing and possession.
The operation, the result of careful observation, allowed the dismantling of a small but frenetic travelling drug market in the "33" area.
The exchange and the stalking
It all started on Via Ortese, where the officers located the man and discreetly followed his movements. The raid began immediately after documenting a typical exchange: a dose of crack sold to a buyer in exchange for a ten-euro note.
While the customer was promptly stopped and reported to the Prefecture as the user, the Carabinieri's attention remained focused on the pusher.
The hideout between the ramps
The 53-year-old, unaware of being observed, was seen repeatedly walking up and down the stairs of a nearby block. The Carabinieri intervened just as the man recovered six more crack cocaine from his stash. In addition to the drugs, a personal search uncovered €210 in cash, believed to be the proceeds of the illegal activity, and a 16-centimeter knife. For this last detail, the man was charged with drug dealing and also with illegal possession of a weapon.
Arsenal and drugs in common areas
The police search then extended to the building's common areas. Although not directly linked to the arrested man, two bullets and a quantity of marijuana were found and seized from unknown persons within the condominium premises, demonstrating the climate of lawlessness that permeates some complexes in the area.
Following the formal procedures, Luigi Mari was transferred to prison, where he remains at the disposal of the judicial authorities.

The news is important but remains confusing. I don't think everything is clear: many things remain unclear. The Carabinieri have done their job, but what happens next? The condominiums should be more vigilant, and the authorities should continue to monitor the situation without media attention.
It seems to me to be a very complicated situation, the police have done their job but the area remains extremely dangerous, people don't feel safe and the checks haven't been enough. There is a need for more protection and continued intervention by the authorities but also more social support and prevention. It seems that the 33 continues to be a black hole of illegality and no one is able to completely change the situation.
