Giugliano – Domestic violence and a weapon hidden under the bed. It happened in Giugliano, Campania, where Carabinieri officers from the local police unit arrested a 41-year-old local man, already known to law enforcement. The man will be charged with domestic violence.
The police were called after a report of a fight in an apartment in the city. When they arrived, they found a 51-year-old woman clearly agitated: she had been attacked by her brother shortly before.
Kicks, punches and club blows
According to the reconstruction, the woman was kicked and punched, and also attacked with a baseball bat. This escalation of violence prompted an immediate search for the man, who was located and arrested shortly thereafter near the home.
The victim told officers she had been abused by her brother for years. Her 73-year-old mother had also been repeatedly targeted. The man, a drug addict, allegedly demanded money daily to buy drugs, and if she refused, she would resort to violence and threats.
The discovery under the mattress
During the search of the apartment, the Carabinieri found the baseball bat used in the attack. But that's not all. In the 41-year-old's bedroom, hidden under the mattress, were also a .38 caliber revolver—reportedly stolen in France—and a bulletproof vest.
The weapon will now be subjected to ballistic tests to verify its possible involvement in bloodshed or other criminal incidents.
The 41-year-old has been sent to prison. He faces charges of domestic abuse, while further charges may emerge following investigations into the illegal weapon found in the home.
