When it comes to Naples, you can't simply ignore its iconic dessert: the babà. This year, there's even more reason to celebrate, with the fifth edition of "Mille&UnBabà by Mulino Caputo." It's not just a showcase for Neapolitan pastry, but also a message of joy and community that resists the shadow of the mafia. The event highlights the creativity and craftsmanship of pastry chefs from Naples and the metropolitan area, the true stars of the upcoming final. on March 16th at the Grand Hotel Vesuvio in Naples. Eight industry professionals will compete, each asked to propose a personal reinterpretation of the babà, combining technique, creativity, and contemporary taste.
The event brings together chefs and lovers of tradition to celebrate the babà, but we mustn't forget the reality we live in. In a context where the mafia tries to take control of every activity, initiatives like these become acts of rebellion. Eating sweets while resisting the bitter taste of injustice—what a way to rebel!
The babà is one of the desserts that best represents Naples, but its history also speaks of an extraordinary cultural fusion between Poland, France, and Italy. After celebrating international exchange and female talent in recent years, this year we wanted to pay tribute to our local professionals and ask them to reinterpret the classic babà with a contemporary twist. Mulino Caputo exports its flours worldwide and strongly believes in the dialogue between masters of the art of baking: initiatives like this are a way to stimulate creativity and enhance the great artisanal tradition.
A Message from Naples
Every slice of babà represents the work of those who choose to stay local, to fight adversity. Pastry-making thus becomes an act of courage. Every bite is a sign that Naples won't give up. We often talk about the daily challenges of organized crime, but events like this remind us that real battles are also won with a smile.
Beyond eating dessert, we are called to reflect on our role. As citizens, as part of a community that wants (and must) recover. Italy is full of challenges, but also full of opportunities. And cooking together, sharing a dessert, is the first step to joining forces. The babà is a symbol: sweet and bitter, like life in Naples.

Naples and the babà are an important sign, but not everything is simple, the celebration seems beautiful but the problems remain, the pastry chefs work with passion, but often the public doesn't fully understand, it is difficult to resist the mafia and economic difficulties, but a dessert can be a symbol, even if the reality is complicated and the solutions are not easy.
