Montemiletto – An act of extreme violence has shocked the quiet hamlet of Montaperto, in the Irpinia municipality of Montemiletto: a medium-sized mixed-breed dog was found hanging from a tree in the remote countryside. The gruesome discovery, made by a farmer (or passerby, according to some sources), immediately sparked community outrage and prompted the Avellino Forestry Carabinieri to launch an investigation.
A thousand-euro bounty to break the silence
To expedite the investigation and break the wall of silence, AIDAA (Italian Association for the Defense of Animals and the Environment) has decided to offer a €1.000 reward for anyone who provides information that helps identify the perpetrators of the crime. "This is an act of unprecedented cruelty and violence," the association emphasizes. "We urge anyone who knows anything to contact the Carabinieri Forestali in Avellino, even anonymously."
AIDAA has already filed a complaint against unknown persons with the competent prosecutor's office, determined to obtain justice for the barbarously killed animal. ENPA on the front lines: civil plaintiff and request for aggravating circumstances. ENPA (National Animal Protection Agency) has also taken the field forcefully.
The organization announced it will file a civil suit against those responsible once they are identified. It also called for systematic consideration of the aggravating circumstance of the perpetrators' social dangerousness in cases of animal killing and mistreatment, thereby increasing the penalties provided for in Article 544-bis of the Criminal Code (prison sentences ranging from four months to two years for animal killing).
An episode that reignites the alarm about crimes against animals
The incident, which occurred in an isolated rural area, has also provoked outrage among local institutions.
The mayor of Montemiletto described the act as "unheard of ferocity," expressing his hope for the swift identification of the perpetrators. The investigation continues, with the hope that the reward and the mobilization of animal rights groups will lead to a decisive breakthrough, breaking the climate of impunity that often surrounds these crimes. Anyone with useful information is encouraged to cooperate with law enforcement.
