Naples - He was only 13 years old, but he already had a throwing knife in his jacket pocket and the conviction that he needed to "defend himself" on the city streets. He was noticed last night by the Carabinieri of the Mobile Radio Unit on Via Foria, during a routine check that revealed a situation far more serious than a simple traffic violation.

Scooter and driving license, an impossible equation

The young man was stopped while riding a 150cc scooter along Via Foria. He obviously didn't have a license: he'll have to wait at least another five years to get back on the road. However, the vehicle was found to be insured.

The shocking discovery: a hidden throwing knife

What turned a routine check into a news story was the discovery. Suspicious of the boy's behavior, the officers decided to investigate further, discovering that the thirteen-year-old was jealously hiding a throwing knife. The blade was 8 centimeters long, for a total length of 15.

“I need it to defend myself”: the justification and the consequences

When asked about the use of that weapon, the minor's response was blunt and, unfortunately, predictable: "I need it to defend myself." A phrase that resonates like a worrying alarm bell, already heard in numerous similar incidents involving very young people.

Following the investigation, the knife was immediately seized. The thirteen-year-old, not being held responsible due to his age, was returned to his parents. However, he has been reported to the Juvenile Prosecutor's Office, which will evaluate the situation and any necessary rehabilitation measures.

I don't know, it seems strange to me, and it's not just a matter of safety. A 13-year-old with a knife and a scooter? Where were the parents? Perhaps there was a lack of dialogue and social support, but also more serious controls. Educational paths need to be decided, not harsh punishments; more attentive services and schooling are needed.
