It was evening in the Traiano district, Naples, when the Carabinieri from the local station, engaged in a territorial patrol, noticed a man riding a scooter. Upon seeing the officers, however, the man didn't stop, sparking a brief chase through the neighborhood streets.
The scooter turned onto Via Cassiodoro and stopped there. A detail that didn't escape the attention of the Carabinieri, who were familiar with the street and the address. Within moments, the identification was clear: it was Giovanni Iandoli, 45, already arrested last January for setting fire to several dumpsters on Via Detta Pacifico. The man had been under house arrest since then.
His presence on the street left no room for interpretation. The escape was obvious. The officers stopped him and arrested him again, charging him with violating the precautionary measure. After the formalities were completed, the 45-year-old was once again placed under house arrest, awaiting trial, while the incident refocused attention on compliance with restrictive measures and surveillance in the neighborhood.
