Stefano De Martino will be the next host and artistic director of the 2027 Sanremo Music Festival. This news, upon closer inspection, is somewhat surprising. His name had been in the air for some time, and the confirmation—with the passing of the baton announced by Carlo Conti during the final evening of the Festival—has simply made official what many had already suspected.
For Stefano, it's almost a natural progression, almost a necessity. Over the past few years, the Neapolitan host has gradually built a solid reputation on television, transforming himself from a rising star to a key figure in Rai entertainment. Now comes the biggest challenge: leading Italy's most beloved festival.
Towards a more “Arborian” Sanremo?
With De Martino at the helm, many hope this will truly usher in a new era for Sanremo. A Festival capable of reviving the spirit of the great Italian variety shows, imbued with intelligent lightness, improvisation, and genuine fun.
The almost inevitable reference is to Renzo Arbore's style: a show where music coexists with comedy, where the television rhythm isn't stiff but lively, surprising, even a little crazy. And this is precisely the style Stefano has displayed in programs like Stella Bar (rewatchable on RaiPlay), a format that alternates surreal characters, musical moments and unpredictable gags.
Imagining a Sanremo with that energy is no longer science fiction.
The "stable" that could arrive at the Ariston
If De Martino does indeed bring his world to the Ariston stage, it's easy to predict the presence of faces who have accompanied him in recent years. Names like:
- Giovanni Esposito (star of many episodes and a guarantee of top-level comedy)
- Biagio Izzo (a guarantee of comedy and experience)
- Francesco Paolantoni (another giant of Italian comedy and actor)
- Herbert Ballerina (another great friend and playmate of Stefano De Martino)
All protagonists of Everything is possible tonight, a winning formula much loved by the public.
It wouldn't be a total revolution, but it would be a change of atmosphere: more teamwork, more improvisation, more warmth.
Finally Naples at the heart of the Festival
For many observers, Stefano's arrival also represents something symbolic: the South arrives in Sanremo with strength, Naples arrives, heart and passion arrive.
De Martino embodies a more empathetic, less distant, and more popular television in the noblest sense of the word. And perhaps the stars, this time, truly seem favorable.
There is no shortage of real challenges
But this enthusiasm shouldn't blind us to the complexity of the role. Being host and artistic director of Sanremo means balancing two very delicate worlds:
- the music industry
- the great television show
There are huge interests behind the Festival—including financial ones—and whoever drives it must know how to choose the right songs, those capable of satisfying the diverse souls of the audience.
This is where Stefano's most difficult challenge will be played out: finding the balance between innovation and tradition.
What if this really was the year of surprises?
2027 could be a Festival full of twists and turns: some are already dreaming of a sensational return. You'll see that, in this climate of renewal, even the Jalisse Will they finally be able to return to the competition? In Sanremo, after all, nothing is impossible.
Because Sanremo is Sanremo.

I'm neutral about this news, not too surprised nor against it, Stefano is already in the air but the thing is complicated: the role of host and artistic director together seems like too big a task to me, it will require good songs and the right choices, and then he's interested in too many things, Naples will perhaps be seen but I don't know if he'll make it, it remains to be seen.
