Sorrento – The judicial shockwave that has engulfed the Sorrento municipal administration continues unabated. At dawn this morning, members of the Torre Annunziata Financial Police Group served 15 summonses for preliminary questioning to as many suspects.

This is a crucial technical step, required by Article 291 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, before the Preliminary Investigations Judge rules on the stringent precautionary measures requested by the Oplonti Prosecutor's Office.

The investigation is the latest chapter in the ongoing investigation that led to the arrest of then-mayor Massimo Coppola on May 20, 2025. This investigation, month after month, is uncovering what investigators describe as a well-established system of patronage aimed at dividing up contracts and influencing public tenders between 2022 and 2024.

The investigation's numbers: 21 arrest warrants

The Public Prosecutor's Office has submitted a request for precautionary measures for a total of 21 individuals: prison sentences were requested for four of them, while house arrest was requested for the remaining 17. Before making a decision, the investigating judge will interview 15 of these suspects on April 16 and 17, 2026.

The number of those involved is vast and touches the very heart of the municipal system: three managers and two officials of the Municipality of Sorrento, a professional former city councilor, six businessmen, a member of the selection committee, and several private individuals. The charges, of varying degrees, are serious: corruption for acts contrary to official duties, interference with the freedom of auctions, and interference with the freedom to choose the contractor.

From the Tasso Theater to the Stadium: Contracts Under Scrutiny

A total of 17 charges are pending, reconstructing a "happy-go-lucky" management of public affairs. The Massa Lubrense Financial Police have scrutinized nearly all of the major projects in Tasso's city:

Tourism and MarketingThe promotional campaigns of the “Sorrento” brand and the territorial marketing projects entrusted to individual firms and companies (including Kidea srl and Comunicando) between 2021 and 2024.

Great Works and Culture: The technological upgrade and management of the Tasso Theatre, as well as the redevelopment of the Stadio Italia.

Services and FurnishingsFrom the supply of "smart benches" to demographic services, up to the conversion of a building into a nursery school in the Priora district.

According to the prosecution's hypothesis, tenders and contracts were "tailor-made" to favor friendly companies in exchange for benefits and favors.

The public competitions "market"

A particularly sensitive issue concerns the alleged manipulation of municipal competitions. The procedures for hiring administrative instructors, technicians, and security officers are under investigation. In this context, the figure of an intermediary emerges, whose home was searched today by financial police.

During the search operations, the Guardia di Finanza found and seized €115.000 in cash. The money, according to investigators, was the proceeds of bribes linked to the "buying and selling" of municipal jobs.

Carpet searches

While the summonses were being served, the police executed house and office searches. In addition to the homes of nine suspects, the searches also targeted the offices of three companies involved in the investigation: Ufficio K srl, TPS SpA, and PM System srl. The goal is to secure further documentary and computer evidence that could confirm the existence of the "hidden orchestra" that for years allegedly governed affairs behind the scenes at City Hall.

I partially agree with the comment, but we must also take into account that the evidence can be complex and investigations can take a long time. Citizens must remain informed but without creating unnecessary panic. Institutions must react with transparency and better controls to restore trust.

I'm reading the article, and it seems like a serious investigation, but it's not worth conducting media trials; the right steps must be taken correctly, the documents must be verified, and those who make mistakes will have to answer. The community needs clarity and order and hopes that everything will be resolved with seriousness.
