Naples - A far from peaceful morning on Corso Arnaldo Lucci, where the theft of an electric bicycle turned into a dramatic street chase.

The protagonist of the incident was a 50-year-old Neapolitan man with a criminal record who, to carry out the robbery, even violated his house arrest. His plan, however, was foiled thanks to the prompt intervention of the State Police.

The street chase

It all started when a patrol car from the Flying Squad, traveling along the street, noticed an unmistakable scene: a passerby was chasing a man on an e-bike on foot, shouting and pointing out the man as the perpetrator of the recent theft. The officers didn't waste a second and immediately started tracking down the suspect.

The attempted escape and the arrest

Seeing the flashing lights and the police ordering him to stop, the 50-year-old ignored the order. Instead of stopping, he pressed the accelerator of his e-bike, desperately trying to disappear into the city traffic. A reckless move that lasted only a few dozen meters: the officers quickly caught up with him, cutting him off and safely blocking his path.

Screwdriver in your pocket and false personal details

The search and cross-checks immediately worsened the arrested man's situation. A screwdriver was found in his pockets, likely a "tool of the trade" used to pry open the bicycle's lock. Lacking any identification, the man then attempted a last-ditch ploy, providing officers with a false name.

The return to the cell

The deception was short-lived. Investigations at the police station unmasked his true identity, revealing not only a lengthy criminal record for specific crimes, but also, more importantly, that the 50-year-old should have been under house arrest.
The man was arrested for aggravated theft, resisting arrest, and evasion, as well as a charge of providing false statements. The stolen goods, recovered intact, were immediately returned to their rightful and relieved owner.

It seems like a fairly normal story, without any major explosions, but there are many things that don't add up: the fifty-year-old was under house arrest but escaped, and the police had to chase him down. Eventually, they stopped him, and the bike was returned to its rightful owner. Let's hope the investigations continue, and that the documents are clearer.
