Bagnoli is entering the most delicate phase of its transformation in preparation for the America's Cup. An updated overview of the works was presented before Ministers Tommaso Foti and Andrea Abodi, the President of the Campania Region, Roberto Fico, and with the live contribution of Bernardo Mattarella. The preliminary activities are complete, while the environmental capping of the landfill site has been completed approximately halfway, a crucial step in leveling the areas designated for future structures.
The construction sites are now fully operational. Work continues on laying underground utilities, while work is beginning on the crane foundations and the platforms that will house the team hangars. The plan calls for the operational bases to be progressively completed starting in July 2026, with priority given to Team New Zealand and two other facilities, until overall completion is expected by October.
On the maritime front, the construction of the breakwaters is already well underway, especially in the central area and the northern groyne. In early March, the dredging test field was launched, with sampling and a new planning of operations in coordination with Arpac, particularly regarding water monitoring and compliance with turbidity thresholds.
One of the most complex aspects remains the management of dredging materials. Technical assessments have examined various solutions, including sea transport to both Italian and international destinations, with the aim of limiting the impact on traffic and road conditions in the area.
According to the updated schedule, activities in the waters in front of the landfill should be completed by October 1, 2026, in time to allow the boats to be hauled out and the teams' logistical operations to begin. This milestone depends on meeting the deadlines and avoiding unforeseen events, in a complex construction site where every step can make the difference between success and delays.
