Arzano, 2 dead and one injured: here's the background to the feud that broke out between the new Camorristi.
The Anti-Mafia investigations reveal the map of power. From a single clan under the aegis of the Amato-Pagano clan to an armed split: here are the names and roles of the new leaders.
Arzano – Two dead and one injured: here's the background to the feud that erupted between the new Camorristi of Arzano. Following the raid the day before yesterday by the Carabinieri of Castello di Cisterna, which resulted in the arrest of 11 individuals, all linked to the 167 and Amato-Pagano clans, the first rumors began to emerge about how the criminal landscape had changed and how two opposing groups, once united under a single banner, had split, attempting to destroy each other through murders and shootouts.
The clan's roots and the "blessing" of the old bosses
Some of those arrested, very young, were born into the military service of the boss Renato Napoleone, who survived unscathed through feuds and criminal purges. A big shot and a staunch supporter of Rosaria Pagano, he first "invested" in collaborators with justice Pasquale and Pietro Cristiano as clan leaders in Arzano and then, given the Cristianos' repentance, in Giuseppe Monfregolo and his family, all of whom are now in prison.
According to the Anti-Mafia investigation, Salvatore Romano (aka sasy), Raffaele Silvestro, Antonio Caiazza, Davide Pescatore aka pal e fierr, Vittorio Scognamiglio, Mattia Rea, Francesco Attrice aka ferrar (arrested on weapons charges a few months ago), Salvatore Lupoli aka trombone (Armano Lupoli's cousin and an extortionist along with Pescatore), Antonio Alterio aka sheriff, Umberto Lupoli aka nano, and Pietroangelo Leotta aka chiatt; are alleged to have conspired with each other and with other individuals already tried separately and with others still being identified, to mutually knowingly form a Camorra-style organization operating in Arzano and neighboring municipalities known as the Arzano 167 clan.
A group directly derived from the Amato-Pagano Camorra consortium operating in the northern area of Naples, they exploited the intimidating power of their membership and the conditions of subjugation and silence, aimed at controlling the territory, committing a number of murders, other crimes against the person, extortion, crimes involving weapons and illicit drug trafficking, also obtaining other unfair profits and advantages related to the acquisition of direct and indirect control of all illicit activities, also as a result of consolidating their own criminal hegemony.
Prison directives and leadership on the ground
The investigation also allowed for analysis of the position of Angelo Antonio Gambino, already cited in the Puca and Verde clan of Sant'Antimo's warrant as a key figure in the Grumo Nevano area on behalf of Napoleone, as the promoter and organizer responsible for ensuring that the gang's members carried out the orders and directives issued from prison by top officials within the territory under its jurisdiction.
The ruthless analysis by magistrates and Carabinieri investigators also allowed them to separate the leadership roles and responsibilities. Salvatore Romano was identified as the leader and promoter, the free contact within the territory of the imprisoned leaders and founders. He coordinated all the clan's activities and the roles assigned to other members, arranged new affiliations, and outlined the clan's strategic guidelines, even participating in meetings with representatives of other criminal groups.
Starting in November 2025, after being removed from Arzano on the orders of Giuseppe Monfregolo, with the support of Renato Napoleone and Angelo Antonio Gambino, he waged an armed struggle against the faction led by Davide Pescatore in order to regain the command position he had held until then.
The split, the "cash register" and the army of affiliates
According to the investigation, Antonio Caiazza, who was now in conflict with the two men, joined the investigation as the clan's treasurer, first as Romano's right-hand man and trusted man, and then, after his departure, as Davide Pescatore's. All the others, as participants, provided a steady and significant contribution to the Camorra clan, contributing in various capacities to numerous criminal activities. Francesco Attrice, Monfregolo's trusted man, was responsible for enforcing extortion and guarding the weapons.
Mattia Rea, who was assigned to escort and supervise Salvatore Romano, his right-hand man, as well as to impose and collect extortion, assisted Romano in the armed struggle against Davide Pescatore's faction; Raffaele Silvestro. He also assisted Romano in the feud against Pescatore's faction; Salvatore Lupoli; Antonio Alterio. Furthermore, Pietroangelo Leotta, tasked with organizing and enforcing extortion, became Antonio Caiazza's right-hand man; Umberto Lupoli, a permanent member of the clan, with tasks of supporting the clan's illicit activities, assisted Romano in the armed struggle against Pescatore's faction.
Then the young Vittorio Scognamiglio, affiliated with the clan through the intercession of Giuseppe Monfregolo, provided his contribution by taking care of the rental of vehicles to be used for the clan's activities, arranging for the related contracts to be registered in the names of unsuspecting individuals. It seems to me that the article highlights the connections between old and new clans, but it lacks information on the social context and the victims. It's unclear whether the fights were about power or drugs. The reporting doesn't clarify who is responsible and leaves many questions. Let's hope the investigation continues.
Reading, I understood that there are too many young people involved and it seems that the leadership is constantly changing, but it is not clear why and how and who is in charge. The Carabinieri carried out a raid but the situation remains complex. Sorry if I write badly but the news is confusing.
The article is informative but appears confusing. The facts are described but context and precise dates are lacking. Names are thrown around out of order and the chronology is difficult to understand. It seems like a hasty reconstruction with many inconsistencies. The investigation will need to be continued, but it will take time to truly understand who is responsible.
