During demolition work on a building adjacent to an abandoned farmhouse in the Quindici area, some workers noticed unusual objects on the attic of the structure and alerted the authorities. Military personnel from the Quindici Station responded to the scene and immediately requested support from the Operational Intervention Company (CIO) of the 14th Carabinieri Battalion "Calabria," which was already engaged in preventative operations in the area.
Police intervention
With the assistance of the Investigative Unit of the Avellino Provincial Command, the Operational Unit of the Baiano Company, and the Sarno Canine Unit (anti-explosive unit), the Carabinieri conducted a thorough search of the area. In addition to the main farmhouse, other abandoned properties in the vicinity were checked, but no further weapons or ammunition were found.
Seizure and start of investigations
The recovered material—a Kalashnikov AK-47 submachine gun with its magazine and cartridges, a 12-gauge shotgun with a valid serial number and 19 rounds of buckshot, as well as two bulletproof vests—was seized and made available to the Avellino Public Prosecutor's Office. Investigators have initiated investigations to establish the weapons' provenance and verify any possible links to criminal activities in the province.
The investigation continues with ballistic analysis and serial number verification, in order to trace any illegal supply channels. Investigators do not rule out the possibility that the seizure may be linked to local criminal activity or arms trafficking networks operating in the Campania region.
