Aversa – A judicial earthquake is shaking the province of Caserta, right in the heart of the offices that are supposed to ensure the legality and transparency of businesses. Today, the Caserta Flying Squad executed two arrest warrants against a State Police Inspector and an accountant.

The accusation is serious: they allegedly transformed the registration on the Prefecture's "White List" into a black market of favors and bribes.

The shadow of corruption in the GIA

The most disturbing suspicion concerns the arrested inspector. The man, who served at the Caserta Police Headquarters, was a full member of the GIA (Interforce Anti-Mafia Group) at the Prefecture. This is the technical body tasked with the extremely delicate task of investigating mafia infiltration in businesses.

According to the reconstruction coordinated by the North Naples Prosecutor's Office, the Inspector, thanks to his privileged position, exploited his role in updating the so-called White List, the list of supplier companies not subject to mafia infiltration attempts.

The blackmail mechanism

The Flying Squad's investigation uncovered a conspiracy in which the accountant allegedly acted as an intermediary between the public official and the business community. The two suspects are charged with extortion and disclosure of official secrets. The "method" was as simple as it was brutal: entrepreneurs were asked for sums of money to ensure their inclusion or continued presence on the prefect's register, thus ensuring the companies could continue working with the public administration without bureaucratic obstacles or prohibitions.

Institutional betrayal

The seriousness of this episode lies not only in the crime of extortion itself, but in the quality of the individuals involved.

The GIA Inspector: This represents the highest degree of treason against the state. According to the prosecution, the person charged with fighting organized crime has become the corrupt guardian of a gate that should have remained closed to dishonest individuals. His role was to act as an anti-mafia "filter"; putting it up for sale undermines citizens' trust in the fight against the clans.

The Accountant: The figure of the professional who "lends himself" to corruption is equally alarming. Instead of protecting the entrepreneur or providing legal assistance, he would have become complicit in an extortion scheme, violating the code of ethics of his profession.

Hypothesis of intent: the pre-planning of the crime

Although the proceedings are in the preliminary investigation phase and the presumption of innocence applies, the hypotheses of malice that emerge appear structured:

Intentional profit-making intent: The direct intent to use public office for personal enrichment by scheduling requests for money to coincide with the deadlines for White List updates.

Intent to betray confidentiality: The knowledge of revealing confidential information (ongoing anti-mafia checks) in order to instill fear in entrepreneurs and justify the request for a "bribe" to "fix" the situation.

Exploitation of a position of superiority: A specific intent to target entrepreneurs in difficulty or vulnerable to bureaucracy, exploiting their fear of exclusion from the public market.

Ongoing investigations and searches

While the Public Prosecutor, Domenico Airoma, has called a press conference to explain the details of the operation, investigators are currently busy executing search and seizure orders at the offices and homes of the suspects. The goal is to consolidate the evidence and determine whether the bribe scheme was even more extensive than has emerged so far. The third-party judge will now assess the strength of the prosecution's case during cross-examination.

This is worrying, but we must wait and see the evidence. The presumption of innocence must be respected and judgment must not be preempted. There appears to be a corruption scheme on the White List and in the GIA, but the prosecutor's office is still talking; investigators are busy, searches and seizures need to be rescheduled, everything needs to be explained.
